Resolve Conflict with Vision

When people are in conflict, we say they are at loggerheads or have locked horns with each other. They are battling head-on. They focus on the difficulty between them or the other person and correct that person's thinking.

When we change our focus, our gaze moves from the conflict or problem to the external thing that we’re looking at.

So, if our focus is on the company or church's vision, we will start working together to achieve that goal.

We move from fighting over a problem to working together to resolve the issue for the sake of the vision.

What is the difference between looking at a close object and an object that is far away? When looking at a close object, you're much more likely to face each other, which can lead to conflict. You fight over the thing between you. When we look at a distant object, we stand alongside one another. This leads to greater collaboration rather than confrontation. We walk forward together.

The same is true for Christians. We can fight over the style of worship or what should happen in a church building. These things are incidental and passing.

When we fix our eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfect of our faith, this draws us closer together.

But there is more! The higher our view of Jesus, the more looking at him will bring us together. If you think that Jesus is just a good teacher, a nice man, then you will end up arguing about all sorts of church activities and theologies. These could be resolved by gazing at the King of Kings as we come under His Lordship and seek first His Kingdom so His Kingdom's purposes get worked out in our lives.

Gazing upon King Jesus brings us closer together.
